A campsite on the banks of the Ubaye river<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Close to nature, Le Fontarache campsite in Barcelonnette<\/a> borders the Ubaye river<\/strong>. It’s only a few steps away. Made up of torrents and gorges, the Ubaye<\/strong> rises in the Lac du Longet<\/strong> at an altitude of 2,655 metres. 83 km long, its course ends in the Serre-Pon\u00e7on Lac de Serre-Pon\u00e7on<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a natural setting, it’s a real invitation to swim and take part in aquatic activities. The Ubaye is also a fisherman’s delight<\/strong>, with numerous species of fish living in its bed and in the various mountain lakes it feeds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fishing in Ubaye<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fario trout and rainbow trout are among the best-known river fish species, but in Ubaye they cohabit with a host of other salmonids<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here you’ll find the hard-to-catch cristivomer<\/strong>, also known as lake trout, brook salmon<\/strong>, speckled trout<\/strong>, Arctic char, a cold-water fish with a mottled grey skin, and grayling, recognizable by its narrow head and black spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
